Australia shares rise 2 pct on Fed cut

SYDNEY, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Australian stocks rose 2 percent
on Wednesday, boosted by banks and global companies such as the
major miners, after the U.S. Federal Reserve cut rates to
stimulate growth.
The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 index was up 72.1 points at
3,628.3 by 2315 GMT.

Suncorp Raises Full-Year Bank Profit Forecast (Update1)

Nov. 24 (Bloomberg) --

forecast for its banking unit’s full-year profit growth before
tax and bad debts to “the high teens” from a previous estimate
of less than 10 percent on increasing sales and lower costs.
Suncorp, the nation’s fifth-largest bank and third-largest
insurer, forecast loans growth of 5 percent and no increase in
expenses for fiscal 2009, the Brisbane-based company said in a
